Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. It was an innate characteristic for a girl who was of Irish origin, and who was nurtured in her early years by talented family members as well as parents. Maureen was born in Ranelagh an area in Dublin - Ireland on the 17th of August 1920. She was the daughter of Marguerita Lulburn FitzSimons was an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin business, and held shares of the Irish soccer team Shamrock Rovers. Maureen FitzSimons was the second daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons, Florrie Fitzsimons Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons rounded out the wonderful family. Maureen enjoyed playing athletic games as a child and was a pro in athletics. Her talent for performing perfectly complemented her interest in sports. In the end, she was awarded almost all of the Feis Awards for acting and dramatic performances in her home country. Her acceptance at the Abbey Theater by age 14 as she was able to fulfill her goals of opera and classical singing and theater.
